Sustainability and continuous improvement remain an important focus across the global Thomas Foods International business.
Our USA operations were recently recognised through the 2025 Meat Institute Environmental Achievement Awards, with the Swedesboro, New Jersey facility receiving 1st Place in the Emissions Reduction category.
The award recognises practical and measurable work being undertaken to reduce environmental impact across operations.
A key initiative has been the transition from high-GWP R-404A refrigerant to a lower-GWP alternative at our Lakeside facility. This has helped replace legacy systems that were responsible for a significant portion of operational greenhouse gas emissions, delivering:
• A projected 10% reduction in total operational GHG emissions over five years
• A measurable 7.9% decrease in electricity consumption
• Reduced leak rates and preventative maintenance, saving approximately $6,500 annually per system
• Significant reductions in both direct Scope 1 and indirect Scope 2 emissions
This recognition reflects our broader commitment across the TFI group to responsible production, operational efficiency and supporting more sustainable outcomes across the global food industry.
